Khair Ullah, also known as Ro BM Hairu, is a Rohingya youth whose life has been shaped by resilience and advocacy. Born in 1998 in Myanmar's Arakan State to Amanullah and Dilbahar, Hairu completed high school in 2015. However, the Myanmar government’s systemic denial of Rohingya rights barred him and others from pursuing higher education.

Forced to flee his homeland due to ongoing conflict and violence, Hairu has sought refuge in Bangladesh, where he has become a vocal advocate for justice, education, and human rights. A poet and writer, he expresses his community’s struggles and resilience through his work, contributing to anthologies like I’m a Rohingya and Rohingya Dreams. His poetry serves as a bridge to foster global understanding and highlight the plight of his people.

In addition to his literary pursuits, Hairu is an accomplished freelance researcher, medical interpreter, and human rights defender. With over five years of experience in on-site and remote medical interpretation, he has facilitated access to essential healthcare for Rohingya refugees, breaking down language barriers between patients and professionals. His human rights work includes advocacy on gender-based violence, human trafficking, mental health, education, and youth empowerment.

Hairu’s contributions extend to photography, with his work featured internationally in exhibitions organised by entities such as the Rohingya Center of Canada and Jersey Overseas Aid in collaboration with UNHCR. His collaborations with organisations like Amnesty International, Jesuit Refugee Service, and Rohingyatographer Magazine reflect his commitment to amplifying the voices of marginalised communities.

Hairu has also been featured in numerous publications and media outlets. His interviews, such as those with Professor Tom Arcaro of Elon University, shed light on the challenges faced by the Rohingya people. His work has been highlighted by Amnesty International Australia through campaigns like the Refugee Rights Campaign Lunch and Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) for their initiative Asia for Refugee Voices from Southeast Asia. His advocacy also appears in Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network (APRRN) events, such as Ek Khaale: Preserving Rohingya Visual History and the Refugee Youth Summit 2024, where he shared his message of hope and justice.

Hairu has also contributed to international outlets like Human Rights Watch, where he helped research human rights violations, and France 24, where his poems raised global awareness. His commitment extends to the Danish Refugee Council and Rohingyatographer, where his photography and storytelling have brought attention to the struggles of displaced Rohingya.

Through his advocacy, artistry, and unwavering dedication, Khair Ullah remains a powerful voice for the Rohingya community and an inspiring force for positive change. His work continues to influence, advocating for justice, education, and the protection of marginalised communities worldwide.
