Janifa

Photographer

Born in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, 28-year-old Janifa found her life upended in 2017 when escalating violence forced her family to seek refuge in Bangladesh. Now a resident of Kutupalong Lambasheia Camp, Janifa’s commitment to photography has not wavered despite her refugee status. A History graduate from Sittwe University, she has a keen understanding of the power of visual storytelling. ‘I took up the camera to document the lives of my community,’ —Janifa says.

Janifa aspires to expand her role as a Rohingya refugee photographer, not merely as a vocation but as a platform to magnify the voices of her community. ‘Sharing our stories can foster a deeper global understanding and empathy for the Rohingya plight,’ —she believes.
